Are You Best Suited To A Traditional Or Non-Surgical Facelift?

Are You Best Suited To A Traditional Or Non-Surgical Facelift?

Ageing is affected by many factors, including genetics, the environment and health. Although we have control over some aspects, cutting out alcohol and cigarettes will only ever moderately delay the development of wrinkles and sagging skin. The Non-Surgical Facelift has proven an incredibly popular anti-ageing treatment in recent years and is fast outpacing its surgical alternative. Each smooths away creases, lifts sagging skin and comes accompanied by its own advantages and disadvantages. So, which is right for you?

Surgical Facelift

Pros And Cons At A Glance

✔ Tightens facial muscles ✘ Long Recovery Time
✔ Removes excess skin ✘ Risk associated with surgery
✔ Long-lasting ✘ Expensive

How Does It Work?

A Surgical Facelift, also known as a Rhytidectomy, is an operation to improve the appearance of ageing in the face and neck. Performed under general anaesthetic (sometimes under local anaesthetic with sedation), surgical incisions are made in the hairline, around the ear and ending at the lower scalp. Fat is redistributed, the underlying tissue is repositioned and deeper layers of muscle are lifted. The skin is then pulled across the uplifted contours and sutured to close the incisions, with any excess trimmed away. Although recovery times can be lengthy, the results from a traditional procedure can last for many years.

Am I A Suitable Candidate?

Surgical candidates are generally mature patients, as traditional Facelifts are best suited to those with more extreme signs of ageing. If your wrinkles are deep-set and sagging skin is visibly significant, contacting a reputable surgeon may help you to achieve a more youthful appearance.

Non-Surgical Facelift

Pros And Cons At A Glance

✔ Improves facial contours and wrinkles ✘ Regular maintenance treatments required
✔ No downtime ✘ Results are less dramatic
✔ Short procedure with instant results

How Does It Work?

Every Non-surgical Facelift is different. Using a combination of treatments, a bespoke plan is created based on each patient’s individual needs. The majority of treatments use Muscle-Relaxing Injections and Dermal Fillers as a starting point, however, where the injectables are used varies. The forehead, between the brows and the outer corners of the eyes, are common injection sites for Muscle-Relaxing Injections, as these are the first areas to develop fine lines. Fillers can also be used to plump sunken cheeks, revive hollow temples and redefine jawlines.

Additional treatments may include Thread Lifting, Chemical Peels, Mesotherapy, Carboxytherapy, Exosome Treatments and Profhilo ®. Your practitioner will suggest the best combination of treatments to achieve the most effective anti-ageing results, however, maintenance treatments are required every 6-12 months.

Am I A Suitable Candidate?

Due to its versatility, the Non-Surgical Facelift can be tailored to benefit most people. For younger patients, treatment packages will be largely preventative, focusing on optimising skin health to delay the onset of ageing. Ideal candidates are those with subtle to moderate signs of ageing, as the use of injectables will be particularly effective. This includes the permanent presence of fine lines, lost volume in the cheeks and the first signs of jowls. When choosing the Non-Surgical Facelift, patients displaying severe signs of ageing may not achieve results dramatic enough to have a noticeable effect, so considering surgical options is advisable.
