“This is a great, highly inno- vative and effective catch-all treatment, as relevant for people wanting to simply freshen up their skin as those looking to redress full acne scarring or stretch marks.”

Which body parts is it designed for?

Chemical Peels involve applying an acid-based liquid solution to the skin to sweep away its top layers, kick-starting the regenerative healing process. Smoother skin emerges, delivering a radiant look of natural vitality.

An excellent way to address common skincare concerns including acne and hyperpigmentation (discolouration) alongside textural issues such as fine lines, subtle scars, sun damage, wrinkles, enlarged pores and dullness, our peels have the capacity to refine and regenerate the skin in a way that at-home versions can’t match. All peels come with the added bonus of stimulating collagen and elastin production – fortifying the skin and slowing the key signs of ageing.

At TLC we use a variety of acid intensities and combinations to treat different types of skin and conditions: ‘superficial’ peels which generally don’t involve shedding, allowing a near-instant recovery; ‘intermediate’ peels for a deeper regenerative dive; and ‘medium depth’ peels for maximum resurfacing. For intimate areas we work with specialist brand, Skin Tech.

Which body parts is it designed for?

Chemical Peels are most commonly used on the face but can be used with great success almost anywhere on the body. This includes the back and even the outer labia and anal areas where the therapy is often used to reduce darkness.

Who it is primarily good for?

Chemical Peels are suitable for anyone over 18, with superficial peels being the safest for all skin types. TLC’s experts will advise patients on an individual basis which peels/combinations of peels to be treated with.

How long will it last for and what’s the downtime?

The longevity of a chemical peel’s results depends on several factors, most significantly the strength used. A light or superficial peel will usually be repeated between six and eight weeks; deeper peels generate longer-lasting results. The TLC experts will advise according to the treatment performed.

For superficial peels patients can expect almost no downtime. For intermediate iterations you may anticipate mild shedding for four to seven days (it’s often less), while medium peels typically involve an exfoliation period of up to two weeks. Aside some redness, patients don’t usually experience any discomfort during this time.

Please note that all treatment responses and recovery times are dependent on the individual patient.

What other treatments it works well with?

Your TLC doctor will be happy to provide you specific skincare advice in line with whichever treatment you choose.

What else should I know?

Chemical Peels are most effective when embraced as part of a regular, ongoing skincare regimen.

Dr. Sarah Tonks says:

“Quote from Sarah here. Weird and wonderful dark art that’s been around since the late 19th or early 20th century but remains an effective natu- ral therapy.”

What happens?
You’ll attend a pre-testing consultation with us to review your medical history, discuss your goals, and subsequently agree on the most relevant type of testing. When the results of your ‘bio-marker’ (urine, blood, and saliva) tests are returned, we’ll meet again to agree a plan of action which may include supplements or administering Body Identical Hormones (see the full treatment description page for more on this). We generally advise that you undergo another round of testing after six months to assess how you’re feeling, the impact of the treatment and if we need to make any changes.
What is the key benefit?
The testing gives us a detailed window into your internal health, and therefore allows for an individually-tailored programme of therapy. In addition to medications and supplements, you will also be provided with lifestyle management guidance, and ways to optimise your health and wellbeing.
Does it hurt?
Body Identical Hormone Therapy is essentially a pain-free process; it’s only the initial blood test that may cause a tiny bit of discomfort.
When does it start to work?
Hormone therapy can take as little as weeks for patients to experience a discernible benefit in the way they feel. Most of our patients report dramatic improvements within months of starting their programme, especially those experiencing peri-menopausal and menopausal symptoms.
What can go wrong?
Hormone therapy can be life-changing, but the benefits depend on a range of factors including a patient’s genetic make-up and lifestyle including nutrition. As a result, we sometimes need to make regime adjustments to re-personalise the treatment; once stabilised, the hormone prescription is usually beneficial for many years. It is worth noting that side effects can include skin breakouts and breast tenderness among others; however, your reaction to the medication will be closely monitored and subsequently adjusted, which significantly lowers these risks. The issues associated with specific hormone prescriptions will be flagged clearly by your TLC doctor during your consultation.
