Here are our responses to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive from patients. Perhaps they’ll help you too. Got any other questions? No problem! Just email us at hello@thelovelyclinic.co.uk and we’ll get back to you with an answer as soon as we can.
Most of our treatments can be described as preventative, thanks to their capacity to either slow down the signs of ageing (such as fine lines, wrinkles and stubborn pockets of fat) from bedding in too early, or minimising their ability to reduce common forms of damage, such as skin discolouration caused by sun exposure.
Any treatments that boost collagen levels will provide a marked improvement in your skin, thereby countering the signs of ageing. In particular, our Advanced Muscle-Relaxing Injectables can help to protect and sustain your natural resting look, preventing lines from becoming a permanent feature; the earlier they’re embraced, the more change they’ll forestall. Similarly, our ultra-hydrating Injectable Moisturisers, such as Profilho®, also come with the additional benefit of rebuilding the body’s reserves of collagen and elastin.
BBL® (or BroadBand Light) HEROic™ is famed for its ability to rejuvenate, not just remove, ageing skin cells at a DNA level in the skin. Whole-body treatments are becoming increasingly popular for this reason, alongside the TLC Dream Skin which takes a similarly top-to-toe approach.
Our Body Identical Hormone Therapy is designed to not just rebalance the body, but also to safeguard it against future problems.
Treatments that increase collagen will make your skin look better indefinitely, and improvements in acne scarring and stretch marks will be long term if you maintain a supportive skincare regimen. However, the effects of the treatment will depend on the severity of the marks and how well your skin heals. For therapies focused on wrinkle relaxation, because the effect of the injections means there will have been less movement for some time, the wrinkles will look a little better for a brief period even after the relaxants have worn off.
Yes, all our treatments are suitable for men, although many will be performed in slightly different ways to accommodate male features or physiology – for instance, more detailed work on the jawline using Dermal Fillers. Our hair services such as the TrichoTest™ are always popular with men. Increasingly men are also concerned about the condition of their skin so many of our patients are having the Therapist Services Facial Treatments.
There are some conditions and/or patient requests that would be better served by surgery. Our highly experienced team of doctors at TLC will advise on the most appropriate options in each individual circumstance.
You’ll initially have a consultation, either at the clinic or online, during which you should wear no make-up, so that we’re able to accurately assess your skin condition and subsequently plan your procedure. If your first meeting with us is online, we’ll ask you to submit a set of images beforehand. We’ll use these to both analyse your skin and also to create your own unique TLC profile.
In-clinic, we’ll use a similar process to prepare for your treatment (where relevant). On the day itself, you may wish to take arnica and bromelain tablets (medication that aids healing and lessons bruises or swelling), and it’s best not to plan any social engagements on the same day and allow ample time for rest and recovery.
Do be mindful that some procedures take several days to show their full results – our TLC doctors will advise according to each individual and the specific treatments they opt for.
During the in-person consultation, we’ll go through your medical history, fill in our clinic agreement form, explain the procedure in detail and take a series of reference photos. During this process, we will often discuss alternative treatment options to ensure you get the very best results.
Depending on what the procedure is, it’s likely you’ll need to remain make-up free afterwards. In some instances, you’ll be able to return to work straight away. If you’re having a treatment involving any downtime (such as HALO® or INTRAcel®), you may prefer to take a a day or so off before returning to work. Our TLC doctors will provide comprehensive advice aligned to each individual and the treatments they are having.
To ensure your full safety, we advise that no treatments should be undertaken during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. You’re fine to continue once you’ve completely finished breastfeeding.
You will need to be aged 18 or over to participate in any of our treatments.
Because all treatments are subject to the unique responses of each individual, we aren’t able to guarantee a specific outcome – only the likely results of a treatment based on our expert assessment of you, your goals and the agreed procedure.
Consequently, refunds cannot be given under any circumstances once the service has been delivered.
Some treatments are more predictable than others. Those which rely on the body’s own powers of regeneration, such as Platelet Rich Plasma therapy (PRP), are more inconsistent. Our at-a-glance overviews for each treatment provide a useful guide to typical responses you can expect.
Some treatments will require a topical anaesthetic to reduce any discomforting sensations during the procedure. These include INTRAcel®, some Dermal Filler treatments (we’ll advise which ones where appropriate) and the HALO® in our Sciton JOULE® Light & Laser Technologies services.
Please note that you are paying solely for the treatment, not for a specific outcome – the result of our procedures is subject to the individual and their unique responses to the treatment. Refunds cannot be given under any circumstances once the service has been delivered.
You’re under no obligation to have the treatment again. Some of the treatments typically have long-lasting results, while for others we advise regular repeat visits to maintain the look and feel that has been achieved with the initial procedure. It’s always up to you whether you’d like to continue your medi-aesthetic journey with us.
As an exceptionally busy clinic, we do require you to commit to paying a deposit for your procedure.
We apply a missed appointment fee to safeguard the time of our expert medical team. Patients are required to let us know at least 48 hours in advance if they need to reschedule and appointment. Full cancellations result in a forfeiting of the deposit.
Yes, if you undergo your treatment within three months of your consultation, this fee can be redeemed against treatment costs when you settle your bill. The only exceptions are the consultation fees for our TrichoTest® and Body-Identical Hormone Therapy treatments.
