Rejuvenate and refine skin texture

A unique and deep double-duty treatment, INTRAcel harnesses the combined powers of fractional radiofrequency and micro-needling to redefine and strengthen skin texture – delivering on shrinking stretch marks, fine lines and acne – while rallying overall rejuvenation.

Dr Sarah Tonks says...

“INTRAcel is a great, highly innovative and effective catch-all treatment, as relevant for people wanting to simply freshen up their skin as those looking to redress acne scarring or stretch marks – or even hyper-pigmentation.”

What is it and how does it work?

An excellent all-round skin texture refresher that serves as an advance on traditional forms of microneedling, INTRAcel uses a similar tiny skin-puncturing tool to deliver a rapid penetration of radiofrequency waves below the skin. The effect is twofold: the pulsing of intense heat produces an underlying tightening effect, while the needling simultaneously improves the top layer of skin. The tiny sub-dermal pricks of the insulated needles mean the epidermis (surface skin) remains only lightly touched; an initial redness dissipates within a day or so, leaving a beautifully smooth appearance.

The needles can be adjusted so the treatment is able to target variable depths.

As with many treatments that stimulate the body’s own process of restoration, it also comes with the bonus of increasing natural collagen levels. These healing factors boost skin strength as well as radiance, assisting the therapy’s success in reducing acne, large pores, stretch marks, fine lines and scars.

Because the device strengthens the skin, rather than shattering the pigmentation, INTRAcel also presents a paradigm shift in pigmentation reduction – delivering an important added bonus for overall skin health that makes it an essential part of our pigmentation reduction programme at TLC.

Which body parts is it designed for?

INTRAcel can be used anywhere on the face and body, but is renowned for high rates of success in countering scarring and stretch marks, enabling reductions of as much as 30% in both length and width of stretch marks.

It’s also especially good for treating the tricky crepey skin on the neck area – many patients like to treat the face and neck together, as this therapy is great for general rejuvenation.

Who is it primarily good for?

A superb treatment for all ages and types of skin texture concern, INTRAcel is beneficial to anyone over the age of 18, but provides particularly pleasing results for those struggling with crepey, dull or irregular skin textures, active acne or acne scarring.

How long will it last for and what’s the downtime?

The effects of INTRAcel don’t automatically subside over time in the manner of some other treatments (for instance, an improvement in scarring will certainly be retained), but like any skincare or fitness regime, it’s sensible to continue with occasional therapy sessions to nurture your new look on an ongoing basis. The TLC team generally recommends that patients return for at least one follow-up session every six months.

Both preparation and downtime are minimal; patients are required to have a topical anaesthetic cream applied for an hour prior to the treatment and should expect to experience redness comparable to sunburn for approximately one day afterwards.

Please note that all treatment responses and recovery times are dependent on the individual patient.

What other treatments does it work well with?

What else should I know?

For those using INTRAcel to treat ageing-based concerns, the TLC team recommend one treatment per month for three months.

For those focused on supporting the reduction of scarring or stretch marks, we would suggest a slightly more intensive programme of one treatment per month for five months.

Following these initial series, patients are advised to return every six months to maintain the effects.

Here are a few final things that you might like to know before taking things forward. If you have any other questions we haven’t thought of yet, no problem! Please email us at and one of the team will get back to you as quickly as they possibly can.

Does it hurt?
There is some discomfort involved in the INTRAcel ® treatment, patients are likely to experience a pricking sensation as a result of the micro-needling – but we minimise this by applying topical anaesthetic cream to patients up to one hour beforehand.
When does it start to work?

You’ll see an immediate improvement to the texture of the skin just a few days after treatment, while the best results become apparent two to four months after treatment.

What can go wrong?

There is a risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation and persistent redness, but both complaints are unusual.
