LYMA Cold Laser Facial

Cold laser therapy packs a deep but soothing regenerative punch

LYMA’s cold lasers, also known as Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), pack a serious bio-stimulating punch without the heat damage of ‘hot’ lasers, meaning soothing cellular regeneration deep within the active dermal layers. The impact? Beautifully remodelled skin including more bounce, elasticity, better texture and, thanks to its ‘cold’ properties, reduced redness.

Dr Sarah Tonks says...

“LYMA is brilliant because of the multiple benefits – its capacity for remodelling, its anti-inflammatory traits, the deep dermal healing – and without any downtime. The underlying technology on which it’s built is used as a pain reliever in sports medicine, which is a testament to its power.”

What is it and how does it work?

A tool so well-respected for healing and regenerative properties that it’s often used in sports medicine and physiotherapy, the near-infrared light of the LYMA laser works via a process known as cold therapy, aka Low-Level Light Therapy (LLLT), to penetrate the skin more deeply than a typical LED-based treatment, but without causing heat damage. This provides especially pronounced effects on tissue repair and regeneration, with the extra depth meaning it can even reach the underlying layers of skin – affecting muscles, tendons and bones – to improve overall structure.

The laser itself unlocks mitochondria – often described as the energy source or battery pack within all cells – which become less efficient as we age, providing a gentle but highly effective stimulation of cellular processes that are key to great skin health. These include increased collagen and elastin production plus improved circulation, whilst reducing everyday oxidative stress on the skin.

The effect is a beautiful remodelling of the skin capable of combating wrinkles, sagging skin and – because of the way in which the cold lasers sooth rather than inflame – a reduction in redness, making it ideal for rosacea, acne sufferers or those with scarring.

During your TLC treatment, we’ll initially treat the cleansed treatment area with LYMA skincare (the Oxygen Mist serum and Oxygen Glide moisturiser) before performing a facial massage and then applying the laser and a fresh application of LYMA skincare to finish.

Thanks to its exceptional anti-inflammatory ‘cool’ properties, the LYMA laser also works superbly in combination with condition-specific treatments, such as our TLC Rosacea SOS Facial or the TLC Acne SOS facial.

Which body parts is it designed for?

The LYMA laser treatment can be used anywhere on the body, but is particularly effective for the face because of the way the light spurs deep cellular level skin regeneration; the extra strength creates a buffer against the formation of wrinkles alongside softening existing fine lines.

Who is it primarily good for?

The healthy ageing (fine lines-reducing and elasticity-restoring properties) of LYMA make it a great treatment for anyone, including all skin tones, but the low intensity (i.e., no trauma to the skin) light means it’s also ideal for people dealing with redness or inflammation such as rosacea or acne.

Similarly, it’s suitable for pregnant or breastfeeding women, or those undergoing chemotherapy.

How long will it last for and what’s the downtime?

The effects of the treatment are immediate and can last indefinitely with regular maintenance sessions; one of the benefits of cold laser therapy is that the deep level cellular regeneration will help to fend off incoming fine lines and wrinkles alongside diminishing current ones. Depending on individual needs and preferences, we usually recommend a follow-up facial every two to three months.

There is no downtime with a LYMA Pro Cold Laser Facial.

What other treatments does it work well with?

What else should I know?

While there’s no substitute for an expertly guided experience in-clinic to support our patients maintenance of results, we do also retail the at-home version of the device here at TLC for those who prefer this approach.
