Different strength levels of the same precision-targeted laser procedure, the NanoLaserPeel and MicroLaserPeel both offer a superb way to uniformly rejuvenate the surface of the skin beyond the typical impact of microdermabrasion or chemical peels, but with the bonus of minimal downtime. Expect beautifully polished skin and a brighter complexion.
The NanoLaserPeel is a superficial laser peel that removes the top layer of the skin in one ultra-precise swoop, stripping away surface layers to exactly the desired depth to uniformly improve skin texture and clarity. An erbium laser beam (erbium lasers are renowned for their exceptional level of precision, control and low thermal damage, making them ideal for delicate work) is guided over the skin to strip away a wafer-thin layer, removing any surface-level dead or damaged skin cells and stimulating the skin’s natural healing process at its uppermost levels. Brightening tired skin, reducing fine lines and minor imperfections, the relatively light touch means it’s often referred to as the ‘lunchtime laser’.
The MicroLaserPeel delves a little deeper to shave away a slightly thicker crust of skin and stimulate the skin’s regenerative processes at a deeper level, remedying issues such as fine lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, more intensive sun damage and superficial scars. The slightly more intensive level of probing stimulates the body’s collagen production for an extra derma-boost. The added depth means this is considered a ‘weekend recovery’ procedure.
Both modalities, which are part of the Sciton JOULE ® Light & Laser Technologies family can be customised according to an individual’s needs and desired outcomes.
While the face is the most common focus, both treatments are versatile enough to be used on numerous parts of the body – including the neck, chest and hands – to improve texture and reduce the signs of ageing, redress sun damage and age spots to boost overall skin tone and (ideal for the legs) add smoothness.
While also applicable to people in their twenties (especially the lighter touch of the NanoLaserPeel), we generally recommend these treatments for people in the 35–45-year age bracket and beyond, for whom the subtle signs of ageing and/or sun damage may have started to make a creeping appearance.
Both treatments provide a quick and definite improvement, but to maintain great results we typically recommend a follow-up refresher every three to six months.
Downtime will depend on the level of skin damage you’re looking to remedy and the preferred recovery time, but, for the MicroLaserPeel, we generally advise a weekend, with the NanoLaserPeel necessitating one day’s respite.
Both treatments are excellent when used in combination with the following laser treatments: ClearSilk (another light touch skin-boosting light therapy), ClearV (a more intensive zone-targeting laser therapy dedicated to remedying vascular conditions like visible blood vessels, spider veins and broken capillaries), and the thermal energy scattering BBL ® HEROic ™, which is used to diminish discolouration and smooth textural variations.
Because each treatment works on different layers of the skin, the impact is cumulative and synergistic, boosting the overall efficacy of the therapy.
Because the NanoLaserPeel treatment – in particular – is relatively superficial, typically removing only a thin layer of the skin, it has limited effectiveness when it comes to deeper wrinkles, significant scarring or more severe skin issues.
The MicroLaserPeel offers a punchier remedy, but for those looking for deep results, we’d recommend a more heavyweight option from the Sciton JOULE® range, such as the HALO®, which is designed to tackle more stubborn conditions and offer both tightening and retexturing.
Here are a few final things that you might like to know before taking things forward. If you have any other questions we haven’t thought of yet, no problem! Please email us at hello@thelovelyclinic.co.uk and one of the team will get back to you as quickly as they possibly can.
We always apply a numbing treatment beforehand to ensure this treatment remains pain-free.
Immediately! But you’ll see best results after two to three days, with subtle continued improvements thereafter.
We don’t recommend this treatment for people with darker skin types, due to the risk of hyperpigmentation occurring.
As with all laser and light-based treatments, there is a risk of hypo/hyperpigmentation, infection or the reactivation of the Herpes Simplex virus (cold sores).
